Meet
GNR Neuville Inc. is developing a modular facility to convert landfill gas into renewable natural gas in partnership with the Portneuf regional waste management authority (RRMGRP) and Énergir, Quebec’s government‑controlled natural gas utility.
The plant, engineered and operated by Sysgaz Inc., will refine landfill gas into high‑purity renewable natural gas (RNG) using advanced desulfurization, dehydration, decarbonization, and cryogenic purification technologies to produce 99% pure liquid methane.
Once operational, the facility will produce ~1.8 million cubic meters of biomethane annually under a 20-year contract with Énergir to reduce 3,500 tons of GHG emissions per year, equivalent to removing 1,000 cars from the road.
Problem They’re Solving
Across North America, landfills continue to burn off methane, releasing a potent greenhouse gas directly into the atmosphere.
GNR Neuville Inc. captures this waste gas and refines it into high‑quality, commercially valuable liquid methane, which is also a truck fuel.
This process not only eliminates harmful emissions but also creates a sustainable fuel source for industrial and transportation markets.
With a 20‑year, C$108 million purchase agreement from Énergir, the project demonstrates a scalable model for turning environmental challenges into profitable clean‑energy solutions.
Where They Are Headed
GNR Neuville Inc. is building a flagship carbon‑reducing energy project designed to serve as a blueprint for future landfill‑to‑RNG developments.
The company founders aim to replicate this model across additional sites, leveraging its proven technology platform and strong municipal partnerships.
Over the next several years, the GNR Neuville model will be replicated within the rapidly growing renewable natural gas sector.
The long‑term vision is to position the project for acquisition by a clean‑energy or infrastructure fund seeking stable, ESG‑aligned assets.
Opportunity Highlights
- Government‑Backed Revenue Security: Long term purchase agreement with Énergir, a utility controlled by the Quebec government, ensures predictable and stable cash flows.
- Utility‑Like Operating Model: Minimal staffing, low operating volatility, and long term contracts create a risk profile similar to regulated utilities.
- High‑Value Physical Assets: The plant’s infrastructure is immovable, long life, and valued at nearly twice the investment, providing strong collateral protection.
- Strategic Exit Potential: The project is designed for sale within 3–5 years to a clean energy or infrastructure fund seeking stable ESG aligned assets.
- Massive North American Market: Over 2,030 U.S. flare sites and hundreds of Canadian landfills represent an US$80B+ capital deployment opportunity for replication.
